Financial Aid Reminders

Clover Park Technical College’s Financial Aid Office works hard to communicate the process for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the FAFSA is an important first step toward receiving federal aid for college.

Federal Student Aid is a part of the U.S. Department of Education, which provides $150 billion in federal grants, loans and work-study funds each year to more than 13 million students. That includes students at CPTC, where about 80 percent of the student body receives some sort of tuition assistance from student loans, VA benefits, grants and other third-party funding.

“Financial aid not only helps them with school, it also helps students survive each quarter,” CPTC Financial Aid Director Wendy Joseph said.

A new year means a new FAFSA application deadline for 2015-2016. Students must reapply every academic year, but the process doesn’t end once the application is submitted.

Joseph advises students to submit their FAFSA more than two weeks before a quarterly deadline so it can be processed and returned to the Financial Aid Office without delay. Joseph encourages students to check their status in the Financial Aid Student Portal, which notifies them of what’s needed to complete the process and allows them to view their awards.

The CPTC website outlines the five-step financial aid process, along with important deadlines.

Students continuing their program into Summer Quarter need to be sure to complete the FAFSA process by the April 10 deadline.
