Congratulations to CPTC’s 2016 All-WA Nominees

Two Clover Park Technical College students will be honored as members of the 2016 All-Washington Academic Team at noon on March 24, at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia. The ceremony recognizes top scholars from the state’s community and technical colleges and awards scholarships.

Representing CPTC on the All-Washington Academic Team are students Ashley Kark and Deronda Thomas.

Ashley Kark

Since she enrolled at CPTC, Kark has been on the President’s List every quarter and has maintained a 4.0 GPA. Kark is in the Pre-Nursing Degree Program and will be the first person in her family to graduate from college.

Kark is a single mother who aspires to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing, specializing in infectious diseases.

As the vice president of service for CPTC’s local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Kark helps the chapter to become more involved with the college and community.

Deronda Thomas

After a 17-year Army career that included a tour in Iraq, Thomas is pursuing a degree in Computer Networking & Information Systems Security. Her hope is to become an entrepreneur in the computer technology field.

Thomas is involved in several groups and clubs on campus. She serves as the vice president of leadership for PTK, the president of the Linux Open Source Users Group and is the president of the college’s Veterans Group. She has also maintained a 3.97 GPA.

Thomas received a Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her more than 500 volunteer hours.
