Health eWorkforce Grant Update
Ten quarters after receiving the Health eWorkforce grant, resources continue to be created for Clover Park Technical College students in the Hemodialysis Technician Program.
Since the grant began, 107 students have been served and 67 have completed their certificates. Students who started in Fall and Winter Quarter are still making progress toward completion. There are still six more months and two cohorts yet to come under the grant.
The Department of Labor grant has allowed CPTC to update its technology and expand its program. The college received a portion of the nearly $12 million grant through its collaboration with The Health eWorkforce Consortium. Led by Bellevue College, the nine colleges in HeW – seven others in Washington and one in Northern Virginia – are developing Health IT training programs that will be disseminated throughout the U.S.
With its more than $600,000 allocation, Clover Park has focused on curriculum development and student services.
On Feb. 16, Bellevue College will make a series of online, self-paced tutorials on broad issues related to Health IT available for faculty professional development. It will include two tracks: Allied Health faculty and IT faculty. In general, there will be five units:
- Unit 1 – Introduction to Health IT Applications
- Unit 2 –The Healthcare Environment
- Unit 3 – Privacy and Security
- Unit 4 – The Impact of Health IT on Health Care
- Unit 5 – The Technology Behind Health IT
The updated course is based on online lessons from the Open Learning Initiative.
