Registration Open for Andy Fritz Memorial Trek for Tech 5k
Clover Park Technical College will welcome dedicated runners, casual walkers, and those simply willing to get off the couch for a good cause to its Lakewood Campus for the Andy Fritz Memorial Trek for Tech 5k walk/run on Saturday, July 28.
The friendly 5k is open to the public is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle for members of the CPTC and Pierce County community. Registration costs $30 per person, with all proceeds going to scholarship and emergency assistance funding for CPTC students through the CPTC Foundation. All registered participants will receive:
- A finisher’s medal designed by a graduate of the CPTC Graphic Technologies program and produced by the college’s Manufacturing Technologies program.
- A recovery pack following the race.
- Access to a post-race, family-friendly party including live music, ice cream social, and photo booth.
The event will both serve as a fundraiser for students and a memorial to longtime Environmental Sciences & Technology instructor Andy Fritz, who passed away with his wife Jody in a bus accident in December. Fritz was an avid runner, completing more than 160 marathons and ultramarathons and 431 total races in his career. Prior to the 9 a.m. start of the race, there will be a dedication of a memorial tree in his honor at 8:30 a.m. at the College Green.
Kids are invited to participate free in the 5k (no need to register for them) along with a registered adult, and they will receive their own special finisher’s medal and kid’s bag upon completion of the race. Current CPTC students can register for free in the Student Leadership and Service Center on campus.
