Sustainability in Action: Power Down Campus Equipment

The College’s Sustainability Committee would like to ask that you conserve energy by powering down your equipment before you leave campus on Fridays and during scheduled time off during quarter breaks and vacation days. Not only do we reduce our energy consumption, which translates into dollars saved for the College, we as an institution reduce our carbon footprint by being good stewards of our resources.

The following is a handy checklist for your use when preparing to be away for more than a few days:

  • Turn off all lights.
  • Turn off and unplug power strips that support your computer(s), printer(s), calculator(s) and copier(s).
  • Turn off LCD projectors.
  • Turn off and unplug small appliances such as water coolers, coffee makers, toasters, microwaves, etc.
  • Check common areas prior to departure to ensure that the lights, computers, etc., are turned off and/or unplugged.
