CPTC Launches Home Care Aide Certification Training

Think about the people who make daily life possible for older adults, people with disabilities, and those recovering from illness or injury. Home Care Aides help their clients stay independent, keep their dignity, and enjoy a good quality of life, all from the comfort of home. If you’ve been looking for work that makes a difference, caregiving may be the right path.

Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) is making that first step easier with its new Home Care Aide (HCA) Certification Training Program, offered through CPTC Continuing Education. In just three weeks, students complete the 75 hours of training Washington State requires to pursue Home Care Aide certification.

Why Home Care?
Home Care Aides support people at some of the most important moments of their lives. The work builds real connections and provides essential help with everyday living. Whether you’re exploring a new career or hoping to enter healthcare, becoming a Home Care Aide can open doors in Washington’s healthcare and long-term care workforce.

A Program Built for Busy Lives
CPTC designed the program with convenience and affordability in mind. Students can finish the full training in three weeks for $680, with all course materials included. The 75 hours begin with five hours of orientation and safety training, followed by 54 hours of core basic training. The program then rounds out with two eight-hour specialty courses, one in mental health and one in dementia care.

After successfully completing the program, students will have met the 75-hour training requirement for the Washington State Home Care Aide certification exam. The exam itself is completed separately through DSHS/Prometric. Classes are held in person at Clover Park Technical College, 4500 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.

Options for Those Already in the Field
Not everyone needs the full program. For caregivers who are already working and only need to complete a specific specialty requirement, CPTC also offers two Washington State DSHS-approved courses individually. The eight-hour Mental Health Specialty Training, available for $100, teaches participants how to support people experiencing mental health conditions through compassionate, informed, person-centered care. The eight-hour Dementia Specialty Training, also $100, builds the knowledge and skills needed to provide safe, compassionate, person-centered care to people living with dementia.

At Clover Park Technical College, we believe education and workforce training create opportunities for individuals, strengthen organizations, and support the communities we serve.
