Chris Fromm plans to pursue a maintenance position after he completes CPTC's Welding Program.

Preparing for a Career in a High-Demand Field

September 30, 2014

When Chris Fromm started to look for a way to make a better living wage, he looked around the area for a welding program.

Fromm was immediately drawn to the faculty and facility of Clover Park Technical College's Welding Program. Those first impressions remained true for Fromm.

What attracted him to the welding industry was the hands-on aspect of creating something all the way through to the end product.

“I already have a good work ethic, but I needed to be educated,” he said.

Fromm plans on pursuing a maintenance position after graduating from CPTC. Already Fromm feels he has become more of an example for his children.

"I want them to see me waking up every day and going to school,” Fromm said.

Fromm was determined to begin his education at CPTC and start on the road to a new career. Although Fromm was first put on a waitlist for the classes he needed, he woke up at 5 a.m. in order to register for classes and was successful.

Fromm has high hopes for what the future has in store.

“There’s not going to be a shortage of work in the welding world anytime soon,” Fromm said.

Fromm enjoys how welding challenges his mind. He said he's constantly thinking of new processes and deciding which ones to use while welding.

Students in CPTC's Welding Program learn the technical knowledge and skills required for entry-level employment in welding, metal fabrication and related occupations. For more information, visit http://www.cptc.edu/programs/welding.
