Veterans Day Ceremony 2015
The college community joined staff, faculty and student veterans at Clover Park Technical College’s 2015 Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 12 at the McGavick Event Center.
The event was hosted by CPTC’s Associated Student Government and brought together former and active duty veterans with ties to the college.
The Lakes High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Color Guard presented the colors. Recent CPTC graduate Linda Rick performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" and Veteran Navigator Shawn Durnen (Army veteran) and student Deronda Thomas (Army veteran) presented the POW/MIA table ceremony.
Event speakers included Tawny Dotson, interim vice president for Strategic Development and a major in the Washington Air National Guard, along with Army veteran and Environmental Sciences & Technology student Amber James.
Army veteran and Washington Department of Veterans Affairs Certified Brain Injury Specialist Scott Bloom was the event’s keynote speaker.
All veterans in attendance were recognized and received a pin during a roll call processional led by Automotive Technician instructor and Army veteran Bob Offerdahl.
Durnen, James and Thomas led a processional to the Veterans Memorial Wall, located near the center of campus, for the presentation of the wreath.
